Aussies can be justifiably proud of their music, writes XENIA HANUSIAK
MELBOURNE-born trombonist Michael Bertoncello has played in orchestras from Chicago to Shanghai, but he still says Australia is one of the best places to make music.
"There is a misconception that the mecca is overseas," the 26- year-old says.
Bertoncello is home on holiday from his position as solo trombone for the Tonhalle Orchester, Zurich.
But rest and recreation are far from his mind.
He is co-directing the inaugural Melbourne International Festival of Brass, which will swing into action on Sunday at Federation Square.
"Geoff Collinson (his co-director) and I want to show young players they have the best teachers and mentors right here in Australia.
