PHEW! When the ball was bounced at Subiaco Oval yesterday, the drugs and sex scandal surrounding West Coast and the Kangaroos was forgotten.
Well, put on hold at least.
When the pause button was switched off 2 1/2 hours later, the Eagles, aided by a seven-goal last quarter, were triumphant 20.13 (133) to 10.9 (69), capping off a successful preseason.
The win, their fourth in five matches under coach John Worsfold, gave the Eagles genuine optimism for the season ahead and set up a juicy round western derby match-up with Fremantle.
However, the Eagles face a nervous wait after veteran defender Ashley McIntosh was reported for charging Adam Simpson late in the third quarter.
The incident sparked a melee and resulted in Simpson leaving the field for the rest of the term.
The Kangaroos were competitive in the first three quarters, but flogged in the last. Brent Harvey was also reported for striking in the last term.
