At 7.30pm, Channel 7 broadcast the Go-Set Pop Poll Winners show, with no real surprise in the Best Male Vocalist (Australia) category.
Johnny Farnham, Russell Morris and Ronnie Burns again took out the top three positions in the prestigious poll -- in that same order -- but the Best Group award represented a major shift, as Daddy Cool relegated the Master's Apprentices to the No 2 spot.
There were last-minute dramas about Daddy Cool appearing on the telecast, with their management, knowing they had the hottest act in the country, increasing their performance fee.
JULY 1
In the international section of the Go-Set Pop Poll, Credence Clearwater Revival had toppled the Beatles as Australia's most favourite group.
