India Abroad-India West alliance is announced
Over 250 members of the Indian American community in the Bay area were present last week to celebrate the grand opening of the swanky half-a-million-dollar office building of India West and India Abroad. The combined office building is owned by Raju-Murarka Properties LLC, a new company formed by Gopal Raju, editor and publisher of India Abroad, Ramesh Murarka, publisher of India West, and Bina Murarka, editor of India West.
The 7,000-square feet two-story building in San Leandro, halfway between San Francisco and the Silicon Valley, will be India West's headquarters and also house India Abroad's West coast office.
Also attending the event at the building that for the occasion was replete with a fine selection of California wines, champagne and sumptuous hors d'oeuvres and the best in holiday music, were several senior local, country and state officials, and virtually the entire board of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce. Guests included San Leandro Mayor Ellen Corbett, Supervisor of the City of San Francisco Leslie Katz, San Leandro Chamber of Commerce chief executive office Tom Guarino and Democratic Congressional hopeful Barbara Lee, a state senator who is running for the 9th Congressional District being vacated by the retiring Democrat Ronald Dellums.
Indian Consul-General for San Francisco C.R. Balachandran and a cross-section of the Indian American entrepreneurial elite of Silicon Valley were other notables present at the ceremony which also marked the development of a business alliance between India Abroad, the oldest and largest circulated Indian newspaper outside India, and India West, the second oldest and second largest circulated Indian American newspaper.
