As the Erasing Borders: Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art of the Diaspora traveling exhibition ends its run October 11 at the Queens Museum of Art and moves to The Gallery at Perm, Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, its curator Vijay Kumar has plenty to reflect on its success.
"This exhibition is taking place in the roller-coaster world of economic boom and collapse," says Kumar, who has taught art in New York for years. "After years of economic expansion across the globe, and dazzling sales of art - especially of Asian art - the recent economic downturn has already caused galleries to close, prices to tumble. Now artists, gallery owners, auction-house employees and investors are all watching each other's faces when they meet."
The exhibition travels to several key galleries and museums in North America from February to December each year.
