The paper has won 19 journalism awards to date
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. -- India-West reporters Ashfaque Swapan and Rupal Shah are among the winners of this year's New California Media Awards, dubbed "the ethnic Pulitzers" by "The News Hour With Jim Lehrer."
The paper has won 19 journalism awards to date, more than any other Indian American publication.
Swapan was named runner-up in the Civil Liberties category (English) for his story, "9/11: One Year Later, Victims Struggle to Rebuild Lives," and Shah was named runner-up in the Central Valley Reporting category for her story, "Exhibit on Immigrants: How Pioneer Indian-Mexican Families Shaped California's Central Valley."
