In a race that proved contentious to the end, city Councilor Charles Yancey held onto his District 4 seat by a ten point margin, defeating challenger Egobudike Ezedi 3,679 votes to 2,990.
As in the preliminary balloting, last week's results showed Ezedi running a slight lead in wards 15 and 17, areas with larger concentrations of white votes, and losing handily -- 1,156 to 1,963 -- in Ward 14, Yancey's heavily African American base.
"We took the race very seriously as we do every race," Yancey said. "I'm gratified at the support we got from people from every walk of life."
