When rap surfaced more than 25 years ago, WKKC was one of the first stations to air this genre uncut to its existing playlist in the mid1980s.
Recognizing that R&B and hip-hop music has gotten out of control with explicit or offensive language, WKKC has often wrestled with how to deal with this growing problem.
Just recently ex-WGCI guru and current WKKC radio director of operations Marv Dyson says that the time has come to just not air such filth. In fact, the radio station that gives airplay also to up-and-coming artists decided that they would be one of the first stations to ban the explicit lyrics when the music is aired Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 6 p.m. That adds up to more than 32 hours of program time.
