MEDFORD, Mass. --Tufts University, the second oldest institution of higher learning in Greater Boston, has its main campus on a hill overlooking Boston on the boundaries of Medford and Somerville.
Tufts students come from all over the country and the world, but 49 percent of the men and 30 percent of the women are from Massachusetts.
Tufts is many different schools: a country-like liberal arts college with trees and green lawns, and a city campus in the South Cove; a university with courses including occupational therapy, music, dental medicine and international relations; and a small college where teachers and students know each other by first names. Its actual divisions are: four undergraduate schools-- Tufts College of Liberal Arts, Jackson College for Women, Tufts college of Engineering, and the College of Special Studies; a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and three professional schools--the School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
