The historic Chicora Wood Plantation in Georgetown County seems certain to remain that way for many years to come.
Its owners, Jamie and Marcia Constance, recently gave a conservation easement to the Historic Charleston Foundation, a legal move that will require the foundation's approval for any significant change to the site.
The easement covers the 1819 plantation house and eight other historic buildings, including the state's most complete antebellum rice mill and a rice shipping barn.
