The strange saga of the Charleston SandSharks took another twist Wednesday when the indoor football team's apparent season-ending win over Montgomery was ruled a forfeit loss instead.
The National Indoor Football League made the decision Wednesday, awarding Montgomery the final spot in the 12-team playoffs after ruling the SandSharks used ineligible players in a 39-28 win last Saturday at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"Charleston's roster Saturday night included at least six ineligible players," a statement from the NIFL said. "The use of ineligible players is a NIFL rule infraction that immediately disqualifies a team's eligibility for the playoffs."
