Cardinal Technologies In. laid off 27 employees Wednesday, including two of its co-founders, as part of its effort to become profitable.
The cuts came a week after a temporary management team arrived from Vulcan Northwest Inc., which became Cardinal's largest shareholder last fall.
"The new management is looking at putting expenses in line with our current revenue, to make the company profitable," said marketing director Mark A. Pontius.
Wednesday's cuts idled co-founders and former vice presidents John L., Stevenson and Delbert D. Crawshaw, plus some charter employees, including purchasing manager George Pontz and payroll manager Charlotte Hargrove.
With the recent exits of president and chief executive Harold R. Krall and chief operating officer Raymond R. Sobieski, the only co-founders left are vice presidents David E. Bowser and John Troutman.
Although the local computer-products firm is undergoing sweeping changes, Pontius said the new management will:
* Keep the company in Lancaster.
* Triple the product development budget in 1994.
* Add $3 million in new production equipment in the third quarter.
* Search nationwide for a new chief executive officer.
