A 45-year-old man developed psychotic symptoms attributed to acute intermittent porphyria; he subsequently took amlodipine 20mg, naproxen sodium 2200mg, colchicine 5mg with beer in a suicide attempt [therapeutic indication not stated]. On referral to the ED, his response rate to questions was slightly slow and his laboratory tests showed moderate leucocytosis [time to reaction onset not stated]. He underwent gastric lavage and treatment with activated charcoal, glucose and opioid analgesics. He was observed for 24 hours; his psychiatric symptoms resolved within 3 days of treatment.
