Dee Brestin has been writing books and giving lectures that teach women about faith and friendships for more than 25 years.
Now she also is helping people deal with another life issue: grief.
It's an emotion she has had to cope with herself after losing her husband, Steve, to colon cancer four years ago.
"I've been on a journey of grief, a river of grief, and I want to give women hope that it is possible to get through it and to let them know that God really has comforted me," Mrs. Brestin said in an interview this week from her home in Kansas City.
She will be in Toledo March 21 as the guest speaker for the 29th annual Changed Life Seminar.
"I have found that often people who have suffered, if they don't back away from God they become better equipped to help others who are hurting. And women have a gift for intimacy to help others and comfort others," Mrs. Brestin said.
Her first book, The Friendships of Women, has sold more than a million copies, and she recently has teamed up with Christian singer and popular conference speaker Kathy Troccoli to write a trilogy of books titled Falling in Love with Jesus.
