Abstract

Irwin Mesher, founder of Insuranceweek magazine, died Saturday at his Seattle home. He was 79.

Mesher spent more than 54 years in the insurance industry and writing about it. He was recognized as one of the foremost authorities in property and casualty insurance as well as in so-called surplus insurance from out-of-state companies not licensed in Washington.

State Insurance Commissioner Dick Marquardt said Mesher had the firmest grasp of the business of anyone he ever met. Marquardt said Mesher could always be counted on for a knowledgeable and fair opinion.
