The Metropolitan Museum of Art presents the marble sculpture "The Young Archer," attributed to Michelangelo Buonarroti (Caprese, 1475-Rome, 1564) on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Velez Blanco Patio for viewing. The fragmentary marble figure of a nude youth, missing arms and lower legs, was retained previously in the Fifth Avenue mansion that has honored the Cultural Services of the French Embassy for decades. For the next 10 years, this magnificent sculpture is on special loan to the Met from the French Republic, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
"The Young Archer" first entered the United States after it was obtained by architect Stanford White for the Manhattan residence of Mr. and Mrs....
