Rhythm appears weekly in the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times.
William Topley got his start as the frontman for the English band The Blessing, but he has since launched a solo career: The well-received "Black River" came out last year, and a new sort-of-greatest-hits package, "Mixed Blessing," just came out.
The album compiles tracks from "Black River" and two Blessing albums, as well as four new songs.
Topley's big, unmistakable voice and adult-contemporary pop arrangements offer plenty of worldly, old-time soul that's influenced by the islands and swamps in equal measure.
He'll play the Club Tavern tonight. Also on the bill: the new installment of Westside Andy Linderman's weekly Blues & Brews Series with Tony Menzer, Mel Ford, Jimmy Voegeli and Clyde Stubblefield. Tickets are $2.
