Captain Comics
Take two spectacularly ridiculous comic book characters, two of America's longest-running superheroes, a little milk and cheese, mix well - and you get one of the strangest funnybooks Captain Comics has ever seen.
Superman & Batman: World's Funnest (DC Comics, $6.95, shipping Nov. 1) is a parody of an old Superman/Batman team-up book called World's Finest that ran from 1941 to 1986. The book is written by Evan Dorkin, who in addition to scribing Superman Adventures and Space Ghost in Cartoon Network Presents, is responsible for a very peculiar comic book called Milk & Cheese, featuring an anthropomorphic carton of milk and wedge of cheese, both of whom are in a permanent bad mood.
World's Funnest is drawn by more artists than I can list here, most of whom are Big Names in the funnybook biz. And it doesn't star Superman and Batman, as you'd expect - but rather, Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite.
Ahem. I guess some explanation is in order.
Mr. Mxyzptlk is a strange imp from another dimension whose magical powers seem limitless - and he puts them to use annoying Superman. You might think that a pretty silly way to use the ability to warp reality, and you'd be right. The whole point of Mr. Mxyzptlk is to be as silly as possible. He brings billboards to life, animates...
