George Strait is the Gary Cooper of country music. Stoic, tall, square-jawed, solid, and dependable. American through and through.
And though he isn't as flashy as Garth Brooks or plastered all over the tabloids with the likes of Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, he has quietly become the biggest county music singer around, with more number one hits to his credit than any other living artists regardless of genre.
Saturday night, Strait brought a Texas-size hat full of those hits and his Ace in the Hole Band to FedExForum for a musical extravaganza that had the arena feeling like an intimate barn dance for the 17,000 in attendance.
