Another Madison bar is ending hip-hop events after a melee involving up to 50 people erupted outside a downtown bar over the weekend.
"When something like this happens, I don't know what's next, and I don't want to find out," King Club owner Shannon Sweeney said today.
A large window valued at about $1,800 at the front of the club, 114 King St., was shattered during the melee early Sunday. The man charged with shattering it is the same man who was charged with firing 10 shots through the window of the Stillwaters bar a year ago in another hip-hop incident.
Ron Champeau, owner of Madison Security, was punched repeatedly during the brawl. He later received five stitches to the left eye. A second guard, Scott Wilson, was punched and kicked, but was not wounded.
"It's phenomenal how fast the gang mentality and the mob mentality kicks in," Champeau said today.
