ST. LOUIS DEATHS
Wendell Lewis Marshall, a local musician who played with jazz legends, died Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2002) at his home in St. Louis after suffering from colon cancer. He was 81.
Mr. Marshall came from a musical family. His mother was a pianist and mandolinist; an aunt, a pianist, led several bands in Chattanooga, Tenn.; and his cousin, Jimmie Blanton, his greatest influence, was a bass player with Duke Ellington.
