WU's Fischer is league player of the year
After leading Washington University's women's basketball team to an eighth University Athletic Association (UAA) title in 11 seasons and a ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, sophomore center Alia Fischer led a group of Bears players named Wednesday to their respective all-conference teams.
Fischer was named the 1998 UAA women's player of the year after leading the conference in scoring (20.1 points a game) and field-goal percentage (.645).
Fischer concluded the regular season ranked 15th nationally in scoring (20.8) and third in field-goal percentage (.618).
Senior guard Amy Schweizer earned first-team all-UAA accolades for the third time in her career.
Head coach Nancy Fahey and her assistants were honored as the women's coaching staff of the year.
