Washington U. center is conference player of year again
Washington University junior All-America center Alia Fischer has become the first player in team history to earn University Athletic Association (UAA) player of the year honors two years in a row.
The Bears, ranked No. 1 in the nation with a 25-0 record, open play in the 1999 NCAA Division III tournament tonight at home.
Coach Nancy Fahey and her assistants also earned UAA coaching staff of the year honors for the second-consecutive season and eighth time in 12 years. Fischer was joined on the all-UAA first team by sophomore Tasha Rodgers, and junior Sue Tucker was named second-team all-UAA.
Washington U. takes its school-record 33-game winning streak into tonight's NCAA Tournament second-round game against Wheaton College (Ill.) at 7 p.m. in the WU Field House.

Falcons are keeping Bradford and will add Kanell
The Atlanta Falcons reached a contract agreement with cornerback Ronnie Bradford and announced they and quarterback Danny Kanell have agreed to terms, giving the NFC champions a new backup to Chris Chandler.
