WOMEN'S AREA COLLEGE NOTEBOOK
After two straight overtime losses, the University of Missouri- St. Louis basketball team beat Quincy 84-81 in double overtime Dec. 9.
The Riverwomen then defeated Webster on Tuesday to lift their record to 4-4 and are 1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Freshman Megan Mauck was instrumental in clinching the double OT win. The point guard played 47 minutes, scored five points and had only two turnovers. But it was her defense that won the game for UMSL, assistant coach Joe Kane said, labeling his high-scorers "outstanding."
Junior Lynette Wellen had a career-best 23 points and eight rebounds, while Wellston High grad Tanisha Albert, a senior, had 19 points and 12 rebounds.
UMSL travels to Topeka, Kan., to play Washburn University on Dec. 30.
