FRENCHVILLE -- Three years after starting commuter air service from the Northern Aroostook Regional Airport in Frenchville, owners of Pine State Airlines stopped scheduled flight service Monday.
The decision to stop the service has caused the layoff of nine people in Frenchville, Presque Isle, Augusta and Portland. The company had employed 15 people. Other jobs could be in jeopardy.
Other than USAir, which provides six flights a day to Boston, Pine State Airlines was the only scheduled flight service in Aroostook County and Maine's only commuter airline servicing solely Maine airports.
