SOUTH BEND -- The Redevelopment Commission approved $85,000 for HOK Sport to develop a Coveleski Stadium neighborhood master plan.
The commission has authorized HOK Sport, the original architects of the Cove, to lead the planning effort for a stadium improvement plan and a neighborhood plan for surrounding land that could include a new entrance to the stadium and mixed-use residential and retail development. HOK Sport also will research the costs and steps involved in land acquisition, and create a budget plan.
Bill Schalliol, city economic development specialist, said a new entrance on the northeast side of the park facing downtown will give the area a "new urbanist feel" that draws people from the city, into the park.
