Tracy Henderson wowed some of the leading high school coaches in the nation Saturday night at the Kodak All-America girls' basketball game in Jackson, Tenn.
Henderson, a 6-3 senior center from Minneapolis Henry, scored 17 points and had game highs of 11 rebounds and three blocks as her Red team beat the White team 87-84.
"I was sitting next to the national high school coach of the year and other top coaches from all over the country," said Henry coach Leslie Smith, "and they were all saying, `What a player!' and `She's got All-America written all over her!' It's nice to hear that from your peers."
Sunday night in St. Cloud, Smith heard a different message from another group of her peers. Henderson - the Star Tribune's Metro Player of the Year, the Associated Press state Player of the Year, a Parade and Kodak All-America - wasn't named Minnesota's Miss Basketball. A committee of eight former and present coaches and one sports editor chose Stewartville's Kasey Morlock.
Henderson said the polite things: She wasn't really surprised at not winning. She didn't really expect to win. She didn't feel bad.
