An ingenious plot to kill an infamous convicted spy in the state prison at Oak Park Heights went awry, and sent the plotter to the Minnesota State Security Hospital at St. Peter.
The case involved a meticulously planned scheme against Christopher Boyce, 39, who was the subject of the book and movie, "The Falcon and the Snowman."
The plotter was Earl Steven Karr, 33, who is serving 25 years for planting 23 pipe bombs in the early 1980s in towns in four Midwestern states, including Minnesota.
In the latest incident, Karr recently was found not guilty of attempted murder by reason of mental illness, and on Friday was committed to the St. Peter facility by Washington County Judge Joseph Quinn.
