"RIGHT, are we ready?" belts out American jazz musician, Chris Byars, his voice resonating across a packed room in the Fullbright Centre as he walks through the door. He's greeted by enthusiastic nods and music soon begins to fill the building.
It's a hot and humid lunchtime in Nicosia and while I can barely muster up the energy to string a proper sentence together, others are deeply engrossed in musical composition. Standing in the middle of a bicommunal jazz workshop has a dizzying effect on the senses. But it isn't the high temperature that's getting to me by this point; I'm more taken aback by just how enthusiastic each and every player seems to be about what they're doing. Heat or no heat, they are definitely on a roll. And apparently this is only the start of it.
