CAROLYN KRIEGMAN, 66, ARTIST, JEWELRY DESIGNER
MONTVILLE TWP. -- Carolyn Kriegman, artist and past president of Town Hall of Morris, died Thursday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital after a 12-year battle with breast cancer. She was 66.
A 26-year resident of Montville, she also had a summer home in Deer Isle, Maine. She was past president of Town Hall of Morris, a celebrity lecture series. She was also program chairwoman for 12 years and was responsible for selecting, escorting and introducing speakers to the group.
Mrs. Kriegman was also public relations director for Bamberger's, and worked with celebrities for such functions as "Designer Balls," a benefit event for local hospitals.
She was a jeweler and creator of plastic body ornaments and studied with Josef Albers at the Yale School of Fine Arts, she became a student of Ossip Zadkine and Stanley William Hayter in Paris. Her work in jewelry-making has been exhibited at the Smithsonian, the Newark Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York City, and the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton.
She was a past president of the New Jersey Designer Craftsmen, the Deer Isle Artists Association in Maine, and served as the northeast representative on the Board of American Crafts Council, the Board of Directors of Peter's Valley and was on the craft committee of the New Jersey Council on the Arts. She was also an accomplished gardener, avid traveler and tennis player. She was a volunteer member of the Cancer Hope Network (formerly Chemo Care). She is survived by her husband, Sam; two daughters, Pavia and Michele, both of Morristown; and three grandchildren.
