Alirio Gomes is a young journalist from Cape Verde who is currently working for Radio Nova, a Catholic broadcasting station. He is attending a training course intended for professionals of the media from PALOP [Portuguese-speaking African Countries] which opened in Lisbon on 3 February.
O Apostolado interviewed this radio announcer, who discussed issues connected with "freedom of the press" in PALOP nations, giving the following assurance:
[Gomes] When one touches on the issue of democracy in PALOP nations one realizes that things are not so easy, as the political context is not the same everywhere. There are many things that are particular to each PALOP nation, and so very different, too. In this context, I would say that Cape Verde is in a "privileged" position as it has been and continues to be a stable country. It is this stability that must be stressed in every sense.
