GUWAHATI, Jan 28 -- Reports of celebration of 60th Republic Day in different parts of the state are still pouring in.
Udalguri: Along with rest of the country, the 60th Republic day was celebrated in Udalguri district also. The main official function was held at the deputy commissioner's parade ground in Udalguri town where the Minister for Public Health Engineering, Rihon Daimari, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of marching contingents from various schools, Assam Police and Home Guards. The minister was also given guard of honour.
In his speech the Assam PHE minister elaborated the various developmental projects undertaken by the government. The minister, reiterated the firm commitment of Assam government to bring peace in the State and thereby develop the State.
Meanwhile the Rashtriya Pataka Suraksha Samity also organised a programme at Sonaripara village under Udalguri police station where a Pakistani flag was allegedly hoisted by miscreants during the Darrang-Udalguri riots. The National Flag was hoisted amid the gathering of around 3000 people.
Rangiya: The 60th Republic Day was colourfully celebrated here at Rangiya HS School playground amid huge public gathering . The National Flag was hoisted by SDO civil of Rangiya BB Dev Choudhury, who in his speech spoke on the significance of the very day and recalled with honour the sacrifice of all freedom fighters. Earlier, a colourful parade was held where NCC cadets, Scouts & Guides and Assam Police troupes participated. Coinciding with the occasion, a cultural show competition was held where different traditional and patriotic items were showcased by school students, and traditional artistes of the Rangiya subdivision followed by a friendly cricket match between SDO XI and Rangiya citizen XI. Later, in the afternoon an open house prize money quiz on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was organised at Rangiya Raijmel premises.
Hojai: The 60th Republic Day was centrally celebrated at Sankardev Nagar, Kachari Maidan with hoisting of the National Tricolour by Munindra Sarmah, SDO (Civil) Hojai, before a capacity crowd. He inspected the guard of honour of the participating teams of Assam Police, NCC, Scouts & Guides etc. in the parade and took the salute of the march past, vontingents.
