Minutes after being named Florida Atlantic University's Most Outstanding Female Athlete, Brittany Bowe was planning her next move.
The team captain and point guard of the Owls had been juggling basketball and competitive skating since she was 10, but Bowe knew she'd eventually have to choose. Again.
Four years ago, the three-time Star-Banner basketball player of the year hedged on pursuing inline skating full-time when she accepted an athletic scholarship to FAU.
After more than 1,000 points and 400 assists on the hardwood and a cool 18 inline world titles, Bowe was back to square one.
Having accomplished all she could in the limited range of inline skating, she was leaning toward trying her luck at basketball in Europe.
But she couldn't shake the image of her visit to the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, where she watched some of the U.S. speedskaters competing on the ice.
