COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, Aug. 2 -- The Official Government News Portal of Sri Lanka issued the following news release:
Work on the construction of the Hambantota International Port is progressing ahead of schedule and filling of water to World's first harbor construed on land is to be held on the 15th of August under the participation of the President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse. Construction of this harbor was inaugurated by the President on 15th July, 2008 and it was originally scheduled to be completed in 3 years.
However due to the dedication of the local engineers and the port construction workers it is being completed ahead of schedule and will be opened in November this year, allowing the first ship to berth in November this year.
This was disclosed by the Speaker of Parliament and the former Minister of Ports and Aviation Mr. Chamal Rajapakse addressing media personnel who made an inspection and fact finding tour of the site of the Harbour yesterday. The Speaker further...
