Abstract
Janzen (2008) examined linguistic, cognitive, and sociocultural dimensions of academic literacy and noted that the sociocultural view of academic literacy is "broad, concerning itself with the social context of learning, both at school and in the wider community, and with the ways in which that context affects students' academic success" (p. 1013). [...] academic literacy is sometimes viewed pluralistically, with its meaning dependent on the social and critical contexts within which literacy is practiced. [...] conceptions of academic literacy vary from a wide-ranging view of multiple literacies to school-based literacy involving content learning and assessment.
