Klezwoods spins around the world
CD Review
With his debut CD, "Klezwoods. Oy Yeah!," Joe Kessler is carrying on two family traditions: spreading Jewish music and bringing people together.
Now based in Gloucester, Kessler toured the world with Atzilut: Concerts for Peace, an ensemble of Arab and Jewish musicians led by his father, cantor Jack Kessler.
Jack Kessler, in turn, is carrying on in the tradition of his father, the late Rabbi Martin Kessler, who led congregations in Salem and Quincy "My grandfather taught my dad all the nusach," Kessler said, referring to the musical modes and melodies associated with different holidays.
Kessler, 40, is a native of Framingham, where his father was cantor for 12 years at Temple Beth Shalom. He recalls at age 8 or 9 hearing the Klezmer Conservatory Band perform...
