Pumped-up skaters fire 97 shots in rout of N.W.T.

YOU could say members of Manitoba's female hockey team watched the ultimate motivational program before playing their opening game of the 2007 Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The Manitoba squad recorded a 6-0 win over Northwest Territories on Monday to open Week 2 hockey action following last week's silver-medal success of Manitoba's male hockey team. Manitoba's female team outshot N.W.T. 97-4 with Lana Steck (Winnipeg) recording the shutout.
"We watched the gold-medal game on the plane coming over here and it got us all pumped up," said Manitoba forward Jenelle Kohanchuk, 16, of Winnipeg who scored two goals in Manitoba's victory. The grade 11 student attends and plays female AAA hockey for Notre Dame Hounds in Saskatchewan.
"We moved the puck around pretty well today and had no regrets as a team," said Kohanchuk whose Manitoba squad includes this province's best under-18 players (aged 15-17). Other Manitoba goals were from Saleah Morrison (Selkirk), Bailey Bram (Ste. Anne),...
