More West Nile cases
THREE more Manitobans have tested positive for West Nile virus, bringing the total number of cases this year to 14.
To date this season, one man from southwestern Manitoba has tested positive for West Nile neurological syndrome -- the most severe form of the disease that can cause inflammation of the brain and spinal cord and in some cases, death.
So far, no deaths from West Nile have been reported this year.
Five other Manitobans tested positive for the less severe form of West Nile, while seven other cases are still under investigation.
One person who tested positive is not a Manitoba resident.
While the risk of West Nile is low, Culex tarsalis mosquitos may be active during the day and early evening if temperatures are warm. Manitobans can reduce their risk of exposure by using mosquito repellent and light-coloured,...
