Update on last week's column - and the video we released regarding the visit by Wellesley sixth graders to the Saudi-funded Roxbury mega mosque: The video showed diat some of the boys joined Muslim men, prostrating themselves in prayer to Allah. The film also shows the mosque spokeswoman teaching the children that women had the right to vote under the Prophet Muhammed.
As of Wednesday morning, the video has been seen by over 300,000 people on Youtube; the issue has been discussed on the Boston local TV stations, talk shows and nationally on the Fox News Channel.
The American Jewish Committee called on Massachusetts education officials to develop guidelines for public school visits to religious community centers in light of the Wellesley incident. The ACLU issued a mild rebuke of the school.
Bella Wong, Wellesley superintendent of schools, apologized to parents. She did not explain why the school - which previously visited the nearby moderate Wayland mosque, decided instead to visit the radical Saudi-funded mosque in Roxbury, run by the Muslim American Society (MAS), an organization federal authorities say is "the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood."
