FDR's World: War, Peace, and Legacies. Ed. by David B. Woolner, Warren F. Kimball, and David Reynolds. (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2008. xiv, 254 pp. $79.95, isbn 9780-230-60938-9.)
This splendid little volume provides an essential guide to Franklin D. Roosevelt's impact on world affairs. I was totally captured by the thoroughness, erudition, and documentation of the articles. Indeed, the endnotes offer a comprehensive guide to Roosevelt scholarship. I was disappointed that there was no article by the dean of Roosevelt scholars William Leuchtenburg or by David Kennedy, but aside from those omissions, there is little to criticize.
The book grows out of two conferences, one at the Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York, and the other at the Churchill Center in Washington, D.C. The contributors include Warren F. Kimball, Walter LaFeber, David Reynolds, Lloyd Gardner, Mark A. Stoler, Alan K. Henrikson, Michael Schaller, Randall B. Woods, Alan P. Dobson, and David B. Woolner.
