If you want to see entrepreneurship in action, Sitka is the place to be, and the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce recently spent a day exploring what this small microcosm of entrepreneurship has to offer! Accessible only by land or sea, Sitka is nestled among spectacular mountains and the Pacific Ocean and strives to capitalize on its natural resources and the experience and knowledge of its residents.
Twelve members of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce traveled to Sitka on September 23 as part of its annual rural outreach efforts at the invitation of Sheila Finkenbinder, Executive Director of the Greater Sitka Chamber of Commerce. Jim Scholz and Cory Baggen of Sampson Tug and Barge provided the State Chamber members with a full day of activities and tours to highlight some of the industries and businesses in the region. The Sitka Chamber also hosted a dinner for State Chamber members at the end of the long day. Cory is the current chair of the Sitka Chamber.
