Floyd Cooper had a dream of drawing pictures for Playboy magazine, but sometimes life has a way of directing one to another calling. So instead of creating tantalizing pictures for men, Cooper has illustrated some 85 books for youngsters. One can now find him in a Philadelphia or Montgomery County elementary school classroom showing off his children's book jackets or conducting an art class.
Cooper will be showcasing his latest art work for the new children's book "These Hands" by Margaret Mason and published by Houghton Mifflin Books at this weekend's 19th Annual African American Children's Book Fair. This will be held on the campus of Community College of Philadelphia in the gymnasium, 17th and Spring Garden streets, on Saturday, Feb. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m.
"I am really excited about this book," said Cooper, a native of Oklahoma. "This is a story about Mason's grandfather who worked in the Wonder Bread factory in Detroit....
