RESUMÉ - Le Rituel du grand exorcisme du Rituel romain de 1 6 1 4 a été considérablement révisé avant d'être promulgué en 1998, publié en 1999, et rédité avec corrections en 2004. Les normes d'introduction (praenotandd) de ce Rituel constituent la source principale du droit canonique régissant l'exorcisme. La première partie de cette étude présente le contexte canonique sur le grand exorcisme du Code de 1917 au Code de 1 983. L'A. considère également l'implication des professionnels de la santé mentale pour déterminer s'il faut procéder à un exorcisme. La deuxième partie de l'étude examine et analyse les praenotanda du Rituel révisé de l'exorcisme. L'A. présente également deux documents de la CDF traitant de certains abus liés à des services de prières, notamment l'utilisation des formules d'exorcisme par des laïcs et qui ne peuvent être utilisées que par un prêtre nommé à la fonction d'exorciste par l'Ordinaire du lieu.
Introduction
The Church's pastoral response to the phenomenon of demonic possession is primarily its ministry to the possessed by means of the rite of exorcism, an official liturgical rite recognized in Catholic theology and canon law as a sacramental (c. 1 1 72). The definition of exorcism in the Dictionnaire de théologie catholique well captures the purpose of the rite: "In the strict sense, exorcism is an adjuration addressed to the devil in order to force him to vacate a place, to abandon a situation, or to release a person whom he holds more or less in his power. The adjuration is made either in the form of a command given directly to the devil, but in the name of God or Jesus Christ, or in the form of a supplicatory invocation, addressed to God and to our Lord, entreating them to order the devil to depart or to ensure that the order is executed."1
The rite of exorcism evolved over the centuries, being standardized for the first time in the Rituale Romanum of 1614. For nearly four hundred years thereafter, the rite remained virtually unaltered.
