The queens of Egypt are an often ignored aspect of this ancient society, which is surprising because there is around 3,000 years worth of history of the queens of Egypt that can be explored. Although there may not be very much detail available to the scholar for research on the earliest Egyptian queens, it is almost certain that no king of Egypt ruled unmarried. While scholars have yet to agree on the importance of the role of the queen in the actual process of leadership, they should not be ignored for they played an important role in supporting their husbands.
Women in Egypt had many more rights than women in most other parts of the ancient world for they were subject to the same laws as men, although scholars are undecided as to why this should be the case.
