WEST HENRIETTA, N.Y., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Odyssey Software today announced that its Athena(TM) for Configuration Manager 5.0 was named as a Finalist in the Best of Tech- Ed 2011 awards program in the Mobile and Wireless category by Penton Media's Windows IT Pro, SQL Server Magazine, DevProConnections and SharePointPro.
The Best of Tech- Ed 2011 awards recognize companies who offer innovative products for the industry. The judges reviewed 334 products and services submitted for the award and chose 47 finalists to be interviewed at the Microsoft Tech- Ed North America 2011 conference in Atlanta, Georgia on May 16, 2011. Winners will be announced at an invite only evening reception at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, May 18.
"We received a record number of nominations this year--more than 300--and determining an array of finalists from that large, diverse field was difficult," said Jason Bovberg, Senior Editor at Windows IT Pro(R). "The mix of products and services from year to year is ever-changing and exciting, and we feel that our 49 finalists represent highly distinguished products and services in their categories. We look forward to our show-floor interviews, which will lead to the determination of winners. We also look forward to determining a winner in our newest category, Best Cloud Computing Product/Service, which we'll choose upon seeing the offerings at the show. For all categories, as always, our judging process involves three criteria: strategic importance to the market, competitive advantage, and value to customers. Our winners will be particularly strong in those areas."
Athena complements and extends the native mobile device management functions of the Microsoft(R) System Center Configuration Manager platform to enable broad management of iOS (iPhone/iPad/iTouch) and Android devices, as well as BlackBerry(R), Windows(R) Mobile, HP webOS and Nokia smartphones, in addition to Windows(R) Embedded CE devices. Athena's distinctive architectural design uses the existing Configuration Manager console to provide robust management and security in diverse device deployments.
Athena does not require additional server-side components or consoles, unlike all other device management products, which require their own proprietary server, console or database infrastructure. Athena's seamless integration into the Configuration Manager platform provides unique benefits such as:
All device management functions are performed from the native Configuration Manager console as a "single pane of glass" for all enterprise and mobile resources.
All mobile and enterprise asset information is contained in the native Configuration Manager database.
Platform facilities are leveraged, such as the Configuration Manager Dashboard and SQL Reporting Services.
The Configuration Manager platform's inherent scalability, reliability and security are leveraged.
Contrary to traditional management offerings, Athena is specifically architected to be flexible, modular and seamless to integrate. Athena is the industry's most flexible and comprehensive mobile device management solution.
