As the world's largest event for the development of offshore exploration and production resources, the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is known by the oil and gas industry as a major event to introduce new technology. The indoor exhibition area is sold out, and an expanded outdoor area is planned for this year's event, which is scheduled May 2 through 5 at Reliant Park in Houston, Texas.
OTC, a scientific and technical conference for industry professionals sponsored by 12 professional societies in the offshore exploration and production industry, started in 1969, and the first conference drew 4,200 attendees and 200 exhibitors. By 2010, attendance had grown to more than 72,900 attendees from mòre than 120 countries. Geoscientists and engineers, managers and executives, professors and university students, consultants and purchasing agents are among those who attend OTC for the exhibit and the conference, the organizers said.
OTC Addresses Technology and Global Issues
The 2011 conference will focus on "Diversity in Energy, People and Resources," presenting a wide range of topics such as projects, management and health, safety and environment. In addition to 300 technical presentations, OTC offers panel sessions where industry leaders discuss current challenges and future directions, as well as special presentations at industry breakfasts and topical lunches.
