The number of homes in negative equity reached almost 10.7 million in September, or 23% of all residential properties with mortgages, according to a Nov. 24 report by First American Corp. unit First American CoreLogic Inc.
Additionally, the data company said 2.3 million mortgages were "approaching" negative equity, meaning the borrowers had less than 5% positive equity.
