Michele Germain Penetar, RN is director of patient services at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. She says she grew up in a family dedicated to serving others. Her father is Frank Germain, whose career was spent as director of social services at Mercy Hospital, now Regional Hospital, Scranton.
Her father's work made a big impression on a teen-aged Michele. "I saw how he was caring for people, making a difference, and that was why I chose a career in nursing."
Ms. Penetar spent 15 years as an ICU nurse where she says she learned that "a kind word, a touch, even a smile can have such an impact on people going through difficult times. It's a very gratifying job, its gratification on a higher level."
