Meredith Corp.'s June 27 acquisition of the Witschi-led (since 2005) Eating Well Media Group was accompanied by his becoming Meredith National Media Group (MNMG) executive vp and president of the Eating Well/Fitness/More/Diabetic Living-comprised Women's Lifestyle unit. That is recognition of Witschi's work at the Charlotte, Vt.-based Eating Well, which included his boosting the bimonthly's rate base from 200,000 to 350,000 and expanding to such brand extensions as books (Eating Well in Season, etc.) and the Web. At MNMG, Witschi will supervise the planned growth of EW's circulation to 500,000 in early 2012, direct Recipe.com (both the Web site and the just-launched quarterly magazine), and be involved with the hire of a new Fitness publisher to succeed Lee Slattery, who moved to Family Circle vp/publisher on June 10. Although Witschi has been commuting regularly from his Connecticut home to Charlotte (second syllable is pronounced lot), his career was largely New York-based, including a late-1990s stint as publisher of the Reader's Digest Association-owned The Family Handyman.
