In many ways, Sandra Bernhard and Bette Midler have had similar careers.
Both are veteran stand-up comedians who have also starred on Broadway, television, and as musicians.
One key difference, though, is that while Midler's stage persona often comes off as brash (see her infamous guest starring role on Seinfeld), Bernhard is the real thing.
Bernhard, who will perform a show set to music at The Bull Run on Saturday night, started off as a stand-up comedian in the late 1970s. She had her star-making turn in 1983 when Martin Scorsese cast her as a stalker and kidnapper in the Robert DeNiro movie The King of Comedy.
